Time between IUI and IVF (long)

Hi all, hope everyone is having a good weekend.  Question for you guys:

When you switch from a failed IUI to trying IFV is there a time period you have to wait (besides the next cycle) in order to do IVF?

My reasoning for asking is due to insurance time limits.  They will only cover infertility treatments for a one six month period in one's lifetime.

My first IUI failed AF arrived, due to cysts on ovaries I have to wait another cycle before attempting IUI #2.  That would put us into our third month (for insurance).  I'm thinking of talking to my dr. about doing IVF instead of another IUI.

I just dont know what is involved with IVF, how long you have to prepare your body for the whole process.  If IVF #1 did not work how long I would have to wait until the next attempt.  I hope this makes some sort of sense.    If I have to wait due to cysts after each attempt, I would want to try IVF that has a better success rate than IUI's (at least that is what I was told by my Dr.)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Obviously, I will be speaking with my RE about this early next week.  Just wanted some insight while I waiting to speak w/my RE.

TIA everyone : )

Re: Time between IUI and IVF (long)

  • MY last failed IUI was last month and my AF came 4 days early. I went CD3 to my RE, for b/w and sono.  I began bcps on CD 3 too, I have 9 days left, My protocal is three weeks of bcps, followed by a sono and b/w check.  Then I start injectibles on Oct. 3rd. with a retrieval date of 10/15. All depending on how my body responds to the injections.  That can vary for about 4 days either way early or late.   SO THE WHOLE ivf #1 process for me is 45 days. The protocal at every RE's office can differ to depending on when they have ivf series.  Good luck
