What to pack in your hospital bag!!??

This is our first and I was wondering what are some essentials I should keep in mind when packing my hospital bag??

Re: What to pack in your hospital bag!!??

  • I have only started mine. Here is what I have

Toiletries, Hair elastics, contact lense solution and case, post delivery night gown and loose PJ's, nursing bra, my own maxi pads incase I don't like the hospital ones.

    What I plan to add:

Change of clothes for DH, clothes for me to go home in, 2 outfits for LO, baby book to put her hand and food print in, laptop, and digital camera.

Thats about all I can think of that I will really need.

  • Just look through the posts....I think there is actually one just a few under yours about a hospital bag.

  • Something to keep in mind (or at least I kept in mind) I purposely bought a nightgown and PJs for the hospital (got them on clearance at Wal-Mart super cheap) but I purposely looked for a night gown with buttons on the front that came open for BFing, same went for the top on my PJs. Easy access.

  • Holy Freak Out, Batman!!!! What's with all the Exclamation Points???!!!???!!

Anyway, just pretend like you're going to a gross hotel for a weekend. Pack what you think you'd want. Flip flops so you don't contract any funky funguses on your feet from the showers, chapstick to write HELP ME on the mirror, and some warm pj's because hospitals tend to be cold.

Then think, Oh, I'm having a baby. My boobs might start leaking more, I better bring Breastpads. And a nursing tank. (GlamourMom is an excellent brand, btw) Maybe an outfit for the baby to wear home so it didn't go naked. Baby Blanket too.

And a calling card/a book of written down phone numbers of people you want to call at 3am when you just dropped a kid. Some hospitals don't allow cell phones to be used even in the post partum ward, it interferes with the CIA's controlling every aspect of your life.

Find out what your hospital provides...mine provides shampoo/conditioner/towels. It also only provides food for ME. Find out what they give you and then make your list.

  • hospitals will provide pads, that funky mesh underwear (if you don't want to ruin yours), diapers.  you might want to think about lollypops instead of round candy.  you don't want to be choking on the little disks!  snacks for hubby while your in labor.  with my first, DH almost passed out because he hadn't eaten during labor.  extra pillow for you for after you have LO.  they never give you enough.  slippers or slipper socks, your feet will get cold and a robe.  other than that, i think everyone else has got you covered!

I would ask your doctor or call the hospital and ask someone in L&D this - my doctor gave me a package for my pre-registration this past week and one of the pages is
"What to pack in your hospital bag" but I'm surprised that no one elses Doctor's do this, or if you've been on a hospital tour, they wouldn't have covered this as well.

My paper says "Please Note: We do not provide sanitary napkins or diapers; Please bring your own", which is why I would suggest contacting YOUR doctor/hospital to double check!!!
