open the car door and strap him or herself into the car seat on their own? She's almost 5 now and just in the last few months could open the door.. but she's been able to climb into it (SUV) and buckle the chest clip for awhile. ds who is 3 can do it all but open the car door already.
hold a pencil with the pincher grasp, instead of fisting it? yes, but it was a new skill, she isn't the strongest writer, has gotten much better at it in PreK this year.
get up and go to the bathroom on their own in the middle of the night? yes, for awhile now... but I have a feeling ds will not be at 4.5... at 3 he's still pretty soaked by morning.
DD is almost 4.5 and she can
sometimes open the door and get up in the carseat on her own. She ca buckle herself in on her own but sometimes wont.
She cant hold a pencil with a pincher grasp.
She does sometimes get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night on her own.

She can open the car door, and buckle her up, but not her down. It is pretty tight. It is hard for me.
No and no.
He can open the car door, get into the seat, put the straps on and buckle the top buckle. We've never tried having him buckle the bottom one.
His OT is working with him on the pincher grasp. He can do it if he's reminded, but he will grab with his whole fist almost every time first.
Yes, he can get up and go to the bathroom on his own in the middle of the night, but he's very fearful of monsters lately, so he probably wouldn't.

She has never gone to the bathroom at night I put her to bed at 9 & she will even get up in the morning & wait at least an 1/2 hr on the weekends to go...girl must has a very big bladder, because 1st thing for everyone I know is going to the bathroom.
Car door: DD can open one of our car doors, but not the other. It's a leverage thing. She can put on her straps and hook the top buckle but not the others.
Pencil: yes. She was freakishly good with the fine motor stuff early on, though.
Bathroom: can she, yes, does she want to do it alone? generally, no. Luckily it's only once in a blue moon that she actually has to go in the middle of the night.

He can buckle and unbuckle the chest clasp on his carseat, but can't fasten or unfasten the crotch part.

Yes, this was the first thing he learned in K4 at the beginning of the school year.

get up and go to the bathroom on their own in the middle of the night? I don't know if he can, but he doesn't. He doesn't even get out of bed in the morning until we come get him, but I think that's more habit than not being able to.

The car door is still a bit heavy for her and she struggles at times. But she has been strapping herself in for about 6 months now.
Pencil hold - about 6 months
and bathroom in the middle of the night doesn't happen. But she does go around 10pm, before she goes to sleep (after laying in bed for 90 minutes) and she comes in our room to use our bathroom (even though there is one closer to her room).
K turned 4 in October so she's not quite 4.5 but I'll answer anyway:
She can open the door on one of our cars but not the other. She just learned to strap herself in within the past few months--maybe right before she turned 4?
Hold a pencil: yes
Bathroom: if she has to go at night (which is rare...the kid stores urine like a camel) she wakes us up first. She can go by herself during the day but doesn't like roaming the house alone at night.

open the car door and strap him or herself into the car seat on their own? most of the way. He can't get the bottom part to snap in on his own, but he can do the chest clip, get in and open and shut the door.

get up and go to the bathroom on their own in the middle of the night? yes.
car door - yes, but all you have to do is lift the handle, then it opens automatically. He can also do H's Mazda, which is at his height. Seat belt - yes, it's a harness, and he's done it since he was about 3ish.
pencil - yes, just in the last couple months.
bathroom - yes
At 4.5 my oldest could def. get herself into the car & into her seat (5pt harness) but now even at 6 she can't pull the straps tight- nor would I expect her to!
She mostly fisted the pencil at that age, and just now at 6 she is now not needing to be reminded about that. My 3.5yo pretty much went straight to the pincher grasp & never used her fist.
My oldest was def. going potty on her own in the night at that age.

I open the door, but she climbs into the SUV and buckles herself. She cannot unbuckle the bottom buckle when getting out.

Yes with encouragement. This rarely happens but she'll come over to me and say I have to go potty and I say ok, go potty, and then she does it on her own and gets into bed.

She has a little trouble with the bottom, but she's getting the hang of it. (She's still in a 5-pt harness carseat.) She's also very very tiny - 30lbs or so - and cannot reach the door handles. W have a minivan and do not have automatic doors and they're way too heavy for her.

get up and go to the bathroom on their own in the middle of the night? Yes sometimes but she usually comes to get us. We don't leave the bathroom light on, only a nightlight. Again, she's too tiny to reach the light switch without moving the step stool over. We leave the lights on in the bathrooms during the day just because the girls can't reach the switch. At night, they usually come in and tell us, but I know DD#1 has peed in the dark before.
He can open the door, get in and do the chest clip, but not the bottom buckle.
He has used the correct grasp on a pencil for a really long time.
He still wears pull-ups at night. The kids sleeps like the dead and doesn't wake up to go.
