I'm postage poor (thank you cards, birth announcements and Christmas cards all in an 8 week span) so this year the thanks you's were done over the phone or in person.  For Christmas I have never been offended when I didn't get a thank you card, as long as there is some kind of acknowledgment then I am fine.

I never think to do it for Christmas...I do make sure to call or send an email w/ a photo to thank people.

Only to people that gifts weren't opened in front of (like if they send it)  Otherwise I think a thank you after opening is sufficient.

This!  But I did do thank you cards for everyone who came or sent a gift to ber bday.  Kuddos to you for keeping the Thank you Card tradition alive.  I hate it when people are rude and don't send them for showers, weddings, etc!!!
