Pre-E and PIH Moms (Re: Meds)

My BP was 170/110 (not resting) yesterday and my OB decided to double my Labetalol from 100mg/2x daily to 200mg/2x daily. They're giving me until tomorrow morning before they make a decision on what the next step is.

So far, my resting BP this morning is 146/96 and I'm hoping this trend continues!

What meds/dosage are you on?

  • I started on Labetalol 100mg/2x daily and it didn't help at all...they upped it to 200mg/2x daily and it started to go down. I was 160/100 went to 140/90 and now it's avg 140-120/88-80 after being on it for a week. I know it helped for me, and it sounds like it's helping for you! Just rest, rest, REST until that doctor appointment!! Don't even shower, anything! I can tell you the less activity I did before leaving to go to the doctor the better my BP had been (so I never shower before I go to any doctor now, haha, I do that afterwards). Hopefully it will stay down for you but I have been reading around that some women are on even higher dosages in order to control it so don't fret just yet! Keep us updated!!! :)

  • I'm on 300mg/2x daily of Labetalol.

When I was admitted to the hospital on the 26th, my BP was 200/110. It's now down to 160/80 so I hope it continues to drop and I hope that means they'll eventually lower my dosage.

  • Do any of you get the side effect of tingly scalp shortly after taking Labetalol? According to the pharmacist, it's a rare, but harmless s/e, but it is WEIRD! Now that my dosage is doubled it is more intense.

  • I haven't gotten a tingly scalp after taking it. The only thing I can't do is take it when I take my prenatal vitamins otherwise I get sick. I just take it first thing when I wake up and before I go to bed with some water and I'm fine. If I take it with food too I don't feel so hot either, but no tingly scalp, that's weird!!
