Reflux & sleeping

My DD has had reflux since about 4 months old and is currently on medicine, however, sleeping is an issue.  Currently she either sleeps in her crib with the mattress elevated or her car seat but wakes up just about every hour from 2-6 am.  I'm not sure if it's from her reflux, if she is still hungry (she shouldn't be), or if she just is having a hard time with sleeping.  Mind you that she has definitely slept through the night before but the last few weeks have been very rough.  If your child has reflux how do they sleep?  where do they sleep? any suggestions on what to do for her would be appreciated.

Re: Reflux & sleeping

  • My son's reflux peaked around 6 weeks. From 6 weeks to about 10 weeks, sleeping was an absolute nightmare. It was beyond just your typical "newborn sleep issues". He slept in a bouncer (the elevation really helped). However, he rarely slept. His eyes would be closed....but he would grunt, jerk, whimper etc. It was so hard to watch (many nights I slept with him on the floor). It wasn't until we started the Prevacid that things got better. He finally moved to the crib and now (at 15 weeks) he is sleeping 12  hours. It was a long road, but I def think reflux can really, really affect their sleep.

Good luck. Like I always say in my posts....reflux is so terrible!

  • My boys have reflux and occasionally wake up too early (5am instead of 6) but other than that they don't wake up at night. They sleep on inclined mattresses in their cribs, with a white noise machine. Is your DD's reflux pretty well under control w/ her medicine? Reflux most definitely affects sleeping but if she naps well and doesn't have really bad reflux during the day then my guess would be that it's something else.
