I knew I would fail my 3hour gd after my score of 174 on my 1 hour. So I go in on Monday for GD training and education. This just makes my sad, I know it's not really my fault but still. bummer. My nurse said that we'll just do the diet and monitoring and see how that goes.
So tell me what your Dr. did for your GD?
TIA
Re: I knew it, I failed...
I'm sorry :-( But it's really not as bad as it seems right now (honestly!).
My doctor had me see a GD specialist and a dietitian, but also I am now seeing maternal fetal medicine for extra monitoring.
I was definitely a cry baby about the diet at first, but now that I am used to it, it's not so bad. Remember that it's all about balancing out carbs and protein. There may be foods that others can not have, but it will not make your blood sugar higher. But there may also be foods that others can easily have, but it makes your blood sugar spike. The first couple weeks are trial-and-error for sure.
I had an u/s, then met with a dietician who taught me about the diet and showed me how to do the finger pricks.
I started out finger pricking 4 times a day (fasting, and one hour after each meal).
After a few weeks of good levels, she now has me testing twice a day -fasting, and one hour after one meal- i pick a different meal each day. I'm still following the diet- I need to. After a few days of testing it was easy to see which foods were causing my spikes. I have to call my levels in every Tuesday, and the nurse runs them by my midwife to see if anything additional needs to be done. I am having another sono next week at 36 weeks to check size again because my u/s at 30 weeks showed that she is on the large side.
It stinks, but not as bad as I thought, and it is only temporary- just keep telling yourself that!
Really wow. I took it this morning and the nurse called me at about 4pm. I knew before she called though, just a gut feeling.
Thank you all for your input so far. I know it will just take some getting use to. Now if I could just get rid of the acid reflex. yuck, may have to start taking some OTC pills for that.
