Saline Sono?

My RE wants to do a saline sonogram (SIS) before we move on to IVF.  Anyone else have this done?  Is it as bad as the HSG?  My HSG was bearable, but just barely.  I thought the best part of the HSG was that you never had to do it again...

Re: Saline Sono?

  • This one was nothing compared to the HSG.  Mine was done in the office vs. having to go to Radiology for my HSG.  It's similar to a pap and they just squirt some saline in via catheter and use u/s to check your uterus.  It wasn't painful at all.  Good luck!

  • Mine does this as standard protocol as well. Heck, if they didn't , they wouldn't have realized just how large of a polyp I had up in there ! Besides looking to make sure everything looks good, they also used it to do the mock transfer and took a picture of what my ute looks like for referance on the days of ER & ET.

  • I've done this twice and didn't think it was much more uncomfortable than a pap - maybe just when he was working with the catheter.  I didn't have much trouble with the HSG but still thought the SHG/SIS was slightly better.

  • I had one. It wasn't a big deal at all. No pain.

  • I've had two. The first one was a piece of cake. The second caused some cramping while the fluid was being injected, but nothing too bad. Make sure you are prepared for a leakage after :-)
