Sleep Aids

A friend and I were debating last night about what you can and cannot (should or shouldn't) take to help you sleep if you're having troubles sleeping/falling asleep - This all stemmed from a post yesterday.

She says you can take the natural sleep-aid Melatonin if only for a few days and I remember reading you could take Unisome for a few days.

I thought maybe something like Melatonin could cause issues because it's a hormone you're body naturally produces.

Any thoughts? Or does anyone know what someone can take??

  • Unisom, Tylenol PM, Tylenol Simply Sleep, and most other over the counter sleep aids have the same active ingredient, diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl).  It is considered safe to take during pregnancy.  If you take it every day, you will most likely develop a tolerence, and it will stop working, but if you only take it once in a while or for a few days at a time, it helps most people.
