TTC After a Loss

I have some news. Finally.

I did the multiple loss bloodwork panel in mid December and finally got some preliminary results yesterday.  I see a hematologist tomorrow, so all I know for right now is I tested high for Factor V Leiden.

On one hand I'm a little relieved to know that there's something we can point to and try to correct.

On the other, I'm a mess of even more feelings about this, chiefly:

  • Goodbye long held dreams of non-hospital birth
  • Hello blood clotting disorder.. ummm.. scary!
  • What if treatment still doesn't change any pregnancy outcomes?
  • And the ever-present, how far are we really willing to push for this?  Obviously I won't know anything about a course of treatment until tomorrow, at the earliest, but I'm already creeped out by the common available treatments.

Also, when I got the call from the OB office that I was being referred to a hematologist, I asked which ones they recommend.  She rattled off 3 docs I know are oncologists.  She must have heard the freaking out in my breath, because she quickly backed up and said "oh, all the oncologists are also hematologists!"  Still, it's pretty sobering to have an appointment with an office that has "cancer center" in the name.

But, for all my conflicted feelings, I know we're doing the next right thing for us, right now.  And it's steps, which is nice, even if I'm not sure I want to take them.

Re: I have some news. Finally.

  • oh hon i know its scary---big hugs to you as you guys try to work through this- our oncology department in our hospital is actually heme/onc as the same docs cover both- all of our kids with factor V go there- most of these docs are great and have awesome bedside manner- good luck tomorrow :)

  • I had to see a hem/onc doctor also recently, the bloodwork found similiar but not the same results.  Good news is that there are treatment plans and maybe this is the start of something great.

    I'm sorry that this probably involoves a hospital birth, but honestly if treating this will bring you your take home baby, it might be worth it {{hugs}}

**oh and you should have seen my moms face when I told her that my hematologist was also an oncology dr, she just about died! (I loved it!! Wink)

Too funny!  DH and I were talking last night about how we'd relay the new info to my mom and hopefully not scare the beejezus out of her too!  My ILs, however... Wink

I know that in the long run, this is good stuff and knowing more is better than not, but I guess with it still being new info, on top of the fairly recent loss, I'm kind of a mess.  Hopefully tomorrow brings us closer some peace with all this.

  • ((Hugs)).  I totally hear you on the conflicted part, and I am glad that you and DH are on the same page and doing what is right for you.  At the end of the day, that is so important.

But there's definitely positive movement here - and now the enemy has a name (and its not necessarily "Obstreperous Ute").

Please keep a girl updated, would'ya?

  • GL at your appt. at the hospital i work at, hematology and oncology are one and the same-same office-same docs!  keep us updated!
  • I know how scary it can be to get back results after testing. It's great to have a diagnosis but it's also quite unnerving to discover that the treatment is difficult or not 100% guaranteed. I hope you're able to get more answers at your next appointment. Although it's scary, you are taking a step in the right direction ((big hugs)).

  • Huge hugs.

I'm glad you got a reason...now just to find an answer.

If it's any consolation, I'm on Lovenox during PG (which is the standard course of treatment for blood clotting disorders) and it's really not that bad at all. There will be more appts towards the last 10 weeks of PG, and probably and induced/c-section birth, but whatever it takes, YWIM?
