I went for a growth scan at my peri's, babies looked great but the tech wouldn't tell me my cervix lenth- said she took three and wasn't sure which she was going with. Seemed a little odd but didn't worry me. Then they had me wait which would have been normal if the Dr was there.... but he wasn't, but still I wasn't worried.
After about twenty minutes a women called me back to explain she was waiting for a call from my OB who is on call and at Brick Hospital. They were sending me in for some monitoring because my cervix had dropped to 2.4 and five weeks ago it was 3.2 (around there anyway). I am still not worried and they explain its just a precaution to see if I am having contractions but I feel fine so I am just glad they are watching me so closly and take there not a big deal attitudes as everything is ok.
Then I go to walk out and one women is like you have to let me know if you have these babies tonight (UGH, what....), then this other women was like are you ok Christina.... (UGH, I didn't think I had a reason to worry till now).... but I still don't stress, its just not me.
So I get to the hospital after whispering to my sleeping husband whats going on and tell him to get back to sleep I will call him if I am having contractions which I don't think I am. My SIL meets me at the hospital and it takes 45 minutes for them to get baby A's heartrate for more then 3 seconds (and she is usually the easy one).
They send a swab to the lab- I forget whats it called but the one that checks for that emzyme thats an indicator of pre-term labor. After three hours of monitoring I wasn't having any contractions but the test did come back positive. According to my Dr all this means is a have a 30 percent chance of going into labor before 37 which really we already knew. They give me a steroid shot set me up for a followup at the office and the hospital for a second round tomorrow (well, today now) and send me on my way,
Sorry it was so long just to say everything seems OK for now. They just want me to take it easy at this point and it looks like they are going to be watching very closly. It's 4 in the morning, my body decided it doesn't want to sleep anymore and my husband is at work.
Oh and their weights were 5.3 and 4.9 so that was even more good news!
Again sorry about the ramble!
Re: My first trip to L& D
I'm glad everything is fine! My OB stopped taking measurements of my cervix at 30 weeks because he said that at that point, cervical length didn't matter, and the only thing that would indicate if the babies were coming was actual labor! At 30 weeks, my cervix measured 1.2 cm. I went another 6 weeks and 1 day with my pregnancy. I would not be surprised if you DO make it to 37 weeks!
And-- nice baby weights! That's about what my guys were when they were born at 36 weeks!
