DS usually is on an every other day schedule with his poops. He's pretty predictable when it comes to that. On poop days he usually poops a whole lot, and ever since we got out of the itty bitty newborn stage it's been that way.
Sunday was a poop day, and then yesterday he also pooped a whole lot. Around 4am, he was up and fussy, and I heard distinct sounds of a mess being made. When I changed the dipe, I noticed the poop was very watery, and had a lot of mucus in it. Still normal color and everything, but definitely not normal consistency.
I had to work today and SO was watching DS, so I left instructions that if it continued to be watery and mucusy that he should call the pedi and see what he says. Pedi said that if there isn't blood in it and he hasn't poo'd more than 10 times in a day it's nothing to worry about and will clear up on its own. He also said that it's common at his age because of starting solids. I guess he forgot that we're not doing that til 6 months and SO forgot to tell him because he had a squirmy fussy baby on his hands. Understandable.
Anyway, he has had these gross poops several times during the day, and after I got home a bit ago, he had another, and it was absolutely bright pea green, and still watery and mucusy. I'm giving it til the morning, and if it's still going on, I'm going to call the pedi myself and maybe bring him in. But in the meantime, does anyone else have any insight into what might be causing the weird poos?
Re: Got a poop question..
generally, green poo is supposed to indicate a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. ds had lots of poop issues when he was younger. very watery, very mucousy poops. sometimes it was bright orange. he did have reflux and horrible gas, but he had extensive testing done and nothing ever came of it and eventually he grew out of it. i'm guessing it might have been a food intolerance but elimination diets never really produced different results so i really don't know.
definitely give the pedi a call though just to make sure lo is ok!
i personally wouldnt give pedialyte, unless recommended by the pedi, and even then i might not do it -i'm just not a fan of giving anything artificial that young. maybe make sure he's getting a lot of Foremilk by switching boobs earlier in the nursing cycle? at least until he is no longer dehydrated....
i have no clue, just my own option. have u checked kellymom for advice?
good luck, hope Connor (and mama!) feels better soon!!! poor guy!
