soy milk?

at this point in my pregnancy I'm feeling guilty because I dont drink milk... I read that soy milk is bad because of estrogen and stuff, but I got the organic kind, and I already know my baby is a girl if that matters, and I am also having chocolate mania, and chocolate soymilk seemed like a healthier option than candy. I dont drink milk- it makes me sick. I dont think it'll really hurt LO but am not sure... wwyd?

Re: soy milk?

  • I never drank milk while PG or otherwise. I had milk in my cereal and that was about it. I took my prenatals and tried to make sure I was getting enough calcium from other foods.

The problem with some of the soy milks is not necessarily estrogen it is isoflavons or isoproteins or some big work that can act a little bit like estrogen in your body. A nutritionist explained it to me and I cannot remember what they said now.

  • Have you tried almond milk?  Within the past year our grocery store started carrying the Silk brand of almond milk & I LOVE IT so much more than soy milk.  It has a little bit of a nutty taste to it, and I definitely prefer it now.  They carry it in vanilla and chocolate flavors too to help your chocolate fix.

  • Try Hemp Milk.  Tempt is one brand.  My son is allergic to both dairy and soy, as well as a handful of other things.  Good luck!  I also take calcium supps on top of my prenatal, but I talked to a dietitian.
