Hi ladies. I just woke up from a kick-arse nap (over 3 hours) & the whole ER business feels like a dream, as it took place at the ungodly hour of 6:30. I have never experienced a 5:15 alarm without the benefit of caffeine & so I was bewildered & shuffling in circles while DH complained that he tossed & turned all night (nerves).
K. Anyway, we made it there & from the moment we arrived--mayhem. A nurse began speaking to me so fast it was like she was on methamphetamines, giving me instructions for later today. My husband looked at me like a deer in headlights & was pulled out of the room to attend to his half of this business (which can I just say, isn't exactly a foreign or unpleasant for the male & does not involve needles in ones hoo hoo, yet he looked alarmed).
They had me get into the gown (which exposed half my caboose) & go down the hall to pee. When I got into the bed, I was covered with a heated blanket--ahh. Then people started coming in to introduce themselves, the anesthesiologist nurse, the doctor (a woman & not my reguar dr--be prepared for the fact that it may not be your dr who does ER) & another nurse--all of whom showed kindness but seemed to be in a hurry. They had a few of us gals lined up in these waiting rooms & were going through us like gangbusters.
After I chatted with the dr. about the fact that they were going to ICSY all embryos, they had me pee again on the way to the procedure room. In my case, anesthesia was given through an IV in the procedure room, not beforehand. Little did the nurse know, I am a small person, but I'm like a water buffalo when it comes to sedation; you have to load me up to take me down. All I remember is a nurse starting to put something very cold where the sun don't shine & then I woke up in the waiting area with my DH. But that wasn't all there was to it.
Evidently I was a chatty cathy when they wheeled me back into the room & said to DH, "I did good, right M?" (Umm, hello incorrect grammar!) They were helping me out of the wheelchair & into the bed, when I announced to the room, "Time to go home, everybody!!!" The anesthesiologist told DH that it took "top shelf" drugs to knock me out in there. LOL. Then they hooked me back up to the heart monitor & I said, "I didn't realize how loud that machine can get when it's angry." My DH, bless him, wrote these things down because he thought it would either mortify or amuse me; I'm not sure which he was going for. The last & final weirdness to come out of my mouth before I became more alert, was when they brought a plate of crackers & a cup of water; I exclaimed, "They really mean business!" to DH. Oh dear sweet baby Jesus.
Came home, passed out in bed with pillows propping me up (keeps you from trying to turn on your side or stomach) & now am drinking Gatorade & eating soup. You're supposed to eat/drink salty stuff, not pick up anything over 5 lbs (sorry kitty) & let them know if you have more than light spotting.
We retrieved 22 eggs today & I can't wait to hear how many of 'em fertilize after co-mingling with DH. A nurse told me before we left, "We'll let you know what happens on the Hot Date." I heart funny nurses!
That was my morning; I wish you all the best with your ER's!
Wear thick fluffy socks.

My experience all three times was completely different, and my clinic makes you wear their own sticky socks. When you enter the procedure room you have to step on a sticky mat which rips off the bottom layer of lint off your already sticky socks, for cleanliness reasons. I think every clinic has their own way of doing things.
Glad your retrieval was successful and GL for an awesome fert report tomorrow. 22 is tremendous!

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.
