Do you buy clothes for the following year?

Are you taking advantage of the current sales to stock up for next winter? I'm wondering what the chances are that I'll guess right on the sizes.

I bought almost all DD's wardrobe from newborn- 18 months, and so far, everything has worked out (except for the few outfits that I bought that weren't season appropriate). I haven't needed to buy very much additional because I had so much for her. I have a bit of an addiction to shopping though, so I still manage to spend $$.

The deals are so great that it's hard not to take advantage. I'm leaning toward getting her some of the really inexpensive stuff. I mean, I've bought a lot ahead of time up until this point and haven't had problems. I just don't want her to have a bunch of clothes that she can't wear next year.

  • I don't really anymore...got kind of burned last summer because he's always been a big baby and his growth really slowed down so he was in 18 month clothes for a really long time.  He couldn't wear any of the 18-24 month summer stuff last year.  So now, I just wait until closer to the season, because it is just too hard to predict.  I feel like he could grow quickly any time.

  • I used to. Until my child became Mr. Unpredictable.  Even now I have no idea what'll fit him.  He can wear 12 month in some things and 24 in others, even within the same brand.

Like say Old Navy...if I go by the size chart he is in 2T for height, but only on the very low end of 12-18 for weight.  It's way confusing. I never even know what size to buy him right NOW, so I have to try things on.

I only do if I can't resist something uber cute and it's a super good deal.

  • I've had things work out buying ahead so far and will continue to do so.  I feel a little better on the big range sizes (like 6-12 months) that they'll fit them at some point.  A lot of things can be worn many times of year like long sleeved tees.  I figure if I get a great deal, I can always sell it at a consignment sale and recoup most of my $ if it's something like gymboree.

Gymboree you can return items for store credit for 180 days so that gives you some time if you realize it probably won't work. The only thing that stinks about that is that you can't use it with gymbucks--i.e you'd have to pick out $75 of merchandise to use a gymbuck and a $25 credit.

  • I haven't before, but I have an entire 3T fall/winter wardrobe bought for J.  We'll see if I wasted my money or not next year!  I feel more comfortable doing it now that we're finally in 2T.  He seems to be growing very slowly these days.
  • I buy ahead but I shop at a lot of consignment sales and garage sales.  I can be pickier when out shopping.  I bought some 2Ts this summer even though I dont think she will be in them till next winter.  I have also bought some stuff at the Childrens place outlet store because it was super cheap.  $4 an outfit!  If she doens't wear it alot it isn't a big deal.  I have got burned on a few thing but for the saving I think I am coming out ahead.  And I can get more outfits for less.
