Announcing the sex

I heard on the radio this morning that a couple found out the sex of their baby and waited to have a big party for their family and friends to announce it.  At the party the had the inside of the cake dyed blue to announce they were having a boy.  I thought this was so cute!  Anyone have any creative plans to announce the sex?

That idea seems to be a trend. I've also heard of having a bunch of pink and blue balloons and guests take turns popping them to find the "It's a girl!" or "It's a boy!" note in one of them.

We're 800 miles away from our families, so no grand announcement plans here--just phone calls. It's not my style anyway. I feel like I get plenty of attention already because I'm pregnant; I don't need to throw a party for every significant moment between now and the birth.

ya, that's nothing new in terms of ideas....still cute though. 

We're not doing anything like that. We'll just text/call/update facebook.

I am planning on sending flowers to my mom in law who is 5.5 hours away. Want to do something for my dad in law too...maybe balloons. I am leaving my best friend a letter on her car and when she opens it, it will be nothing but an envelope full of blue or pink confetti. Cant wait to find out!

This is our plan....we have a small get together planned with both families a few days after our anatomy scan when we will all find out together once we cut that cake!

That is exactly our plan too! The cake idea seems to be a popular one, but none of my friends or family had heard of the idea so they are excited about it! Just so happens that my b-day is Jan 14th, so we are going to have the cake be my birthday cake with either the pink or blue frosting in it. We are having our u/s today tho, so they all have to wait 10 more days after we find out to know! They hate that, but I think it's worht the wait!
