Doesn't matter what you register for- you'll go through them quickly. If anything, register for both so you can decide what you like. I'm using cloth diapers but with DD I used Kirkland brand FWIW.
I'm not really registering for them but my BFF who's hosting put on the invite to bring a pack of diapers to be enter for a door prize then I'll get whatever and I can decide what kind to stick with after.

with my ds I used pampers swaddlers at first and then around 4 months switched to huggies.
I think this time I'll just start out with huggies. It's been said by lots of folks that pampers work better for girls and huggies are better for boys.
You'll find what works for you. Just don't open all the boxes at once if you get some, you can always return them once you find out what works best for you baby.

What works for some babies doesn't work for others and what some moms love, others dislike.
If you want to add pampers and huggies on your registry then there is not harm to doing that but open the smallest that you may receive and see if you like them. You can always exchange whatever you do not open for a different brand.
Im sure it depends on the group of people coming to your shower, but we only got 1 pack of diapers at ours and we registered for a few different kinds. We ordered some on our own with gift cards we got. We are trying 7th generation, pampers swaddlers and huggies naturals. We will see what works best and go from there.
I found with girls, pampers seem to be better, and Huggies for boys. I don't know if it was just my kids, and family members babies. I think it has a little to do with the shape and where the extra absorbency is.
Just because you've registered for one kind doesn't mean that's what you will get anyway. After our shower, we have a closet full of diapers of different kinds, none of which were the brand we registered for. I'm guessing that at 3 am, I won't care what kind of diapers were putting on him. But, if you register for both kinds, you will be able to return them to the store for credit to get which ever brand seems to work best for you.
I put pampers on mine. I asked a bunch of people in our family what they like and all of them said pampers and all of them have boys. But of course we will take whatever we get and we can try out whatever we get and see what we like best. In the end people will buy what they want for you anyways.

We had major leaking issues with Huggies Snug & Dry diapers (bought from Costco) It wasn't just blow-outs, but actual pee leaking out around the legs.
Pampers Baby Dry (no Dry Max in them) have been fantastic.
