IVF ladies - ??? what to expect

Hi ladies, I did an intro the other day and in that I said that IVF would be my next step if this cycle didn't work - well AF arrived today, so here we are.  I am still kind of shocked that I got AF this soon in my cycle - CD 22; 11 dpo - my LP is normally 14 days (once - 13 days and 15 days - 3 times) - so I am not quite sure what the issue was or if it was due to using injects (this was my first cycle on them).

I'll be calling my RE tomorrow (AF didn't show until after they were closed and my RE will only count tomorrow as CD 1 since it started after noon).  I already had my IVF consult scheduled for Wednesday.  Like I said I wasn't expecting AF until Thursday, so I thought everything was okay timing wise.

I assume for me to start to cycle, they will want to do a u/s on CD 3 and possibly b/w.  Just wondering what I have to expect in the next couple of weeks.  We will dicuss protocol and all of that at the appt.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  TIA.

Re: IVF ladies - ??? what to expect

  • every protocol is a little different from the next.  I did B/C for a few weeks prior to starting lupron.  It's not so bad.

  • Since I switched REs I had to repeat a few tests before we started and then I started BCPs with my next period. I didn't have initial b/w or u/s until cd3 when I was instructed to start stims! I'm not sure if that helps or not since every RE is different. Your nurse/coordinator will be your best friend in walking you through everything. Good luck and I'm so sorry about your early BFN. :(

  • So sorry about AF showing up.  For me, AF was always messed up after using any fertility meds.

When I started my IVF cycle, I went in for a CD3 baseline u/s & b/w, then they started me on BCP a few days later, during the 2nd week on those, I started Lupron, ended the BCP, had AF and another CD3 baseline appointment and continued with Lupron through AF and even now with stims.

Good luck at your IVF consult!

Thanks so much!!  This is exactly waht I was looking for.  I was/am just hoping that getting  AF early didn't screw everything up, but it sounds like maybe it could still all work out.

And I love your pugs they are so darn cute!!!

  • Hey lady !  When I started AF, they actually called in the Rx for BCPs that same day. I didn't have a CD3 u/s but just started the pills that night. They also called in the Rxs to the specialty pharmacy for all my other meds. I started Lupron on CD15 and ended the BCPs on CD 19. Once I got AF, I had an u/s on what end up being CD2.
