Dumb question re: bassinet vs crib

Sorry if this is a dumb question!!  Do infants have to sleep in a bassinet or can they go straight to their cribs?  I guess I'm just confused as to why/when/if ever to use a bassinet and not a crib.  Please enlighten me!!

  • They can go straight to a crib.  Some parents like the bassinet so the baby can sleep in the parents' room.

Exactly what I was going to say.  Also some like to have a bassinet downstairs and the crib upstairs (or wherever the baby's room is).

  • Thanks....we are going to be moving a few weeks after baby is born so the least amount of "stuff" to have will be helpful.  I was thinking about doing a Pack 'n Play (maybe with a bassinet feature) in our room for before we move rather than setting up a heavy crib and move it a few weeks later.  I'm hoping that's ok!

  • We're planning to do a Pack n Play with bassinet feature in our room at the beginning, for ease of night feedings. As long as you've got room for it, that's fine!

Sounds like a plan to me!  We will also do a PNP or bassinet in our room for a little while for night feedings.

This is our plan as well.
