Holy rib pain!

It feels like someone grabbed my ribs in a vice...and then squeezed as hard as possible...and then while it was still being squeezed, lit them on fire.  Anyone found any relief for this?

Re: Holy rib pain!

  • Not sure if mine is the same as yours but, mine goes from under my right boob and around my ribs/back all the way to my spine and kept getting worse after I ate. Come to find out it is my gallbladder and I will have to live with it (and the horrible can't have anything good diet that goes along with it) until after baby is born. I hope this isn't the same for you but, I kinda feel like mine have been lit on fire sometimes or that something inside me is being poked with a hot poker. SUCKS and I hope you find some relief!

  • I hear ya. No matter how I sleep, sit, or stand it hurts so bad. I read online to use an ice pack and stretch your arms up while doing so. I tried it and it actually seemed to work. I look ridiculous but it's the only relief. I've had to take a Tylenol almost every night in order to sleep at all. I asked my Dr. and she said it was fine. If I don't take it, I just roll around trying to get comfortable without any success.

Funny thing is, he's not even in my ribs. It's just from my uterus or something. If he were in my ribs and they hurt this bad, at least I feel like there'd be an excuse.

  • I am already feeling it this time - LO has his feet jammed into the ribs on whatever side I'm sleeping.  I wake up feeling like I've been beaten.  The only relief I got last time was when I gave birth.  Sorry.

  • Arms up with ice helped me but some of my pain was muscle strain from weeks of coughing. I've had rib pain off and on since 20 weeks, almost continuously since about 27 or so weeks, and it is no fun!

Having some counter-pressure from DH on the area helped me a lot when it has been at its worst (like, I am going to cry, can't do a damn thing, OMG how many more weeks bad).

  • I had horrible rib pain during my first pregnancy and this time it's starting now as well. Last time my Dr told me that she thought I had torn ligaments between my ribs. I have a short torso and apparently they just spread too much and too fast!

This time I have found the cat/cow pose in yoga to really help stretch that area. I try to do it daily and it seems to help a lot.
