3rd Trimester

Sleep has to be easier with a newborn!

Okay I'm a first timer so obviously I'm talking outta my @ss but this is getting ridonkulous!  I am effing exhausted but am wide awake and I have no better way to describe it.  When I do manage to sleep I snore something terrible so I wake up feeling like the dragon lady, but even that is only 5-15 minute intervals.  DH doesn't understand why I don't, "Just go to sleep," but hello, I'd love to.  Sigh.  I knew I could commiserate with you all.  I don't mind the rest of the pregnancy stuff as I've had it really easy, but this sleep deprivation thing is making mommy a little cranky-nope scratch that, a little psychotic.

Tell me that it's just the last month of pregnancy and that once LO is born and hormones calm down that at least I can sleep when he sleeps...please?

  • Some people will say so, but most do not.  You def feel better sleeping - no aches and pains.  But getting a long enough stretch to feel rested is the problem......

This! You'll have no problem sleeping because you won't get to for extended periods of time.

  • I know exactly how you feel. I had a dr appt this morning at 8:30 am..... I was awake at 4. I cant sleep at all. It makes me turn real mean, hubby sleeps like the dead, and I lay there hearing him snoring, it drives me nuts im so jealous! I asked my ob today what to do about it and he said unisom will keep you asleep. so I'm breaking down and taking something for it because I am so tired I actually had a panic attack. good luck
  • You don't have too much longer to go, but here is a suggestion that really helped me.  Sleep in a recliner.  That was the only way I got sleep the last 2 months.  GL

  • I used to think the same thing until my DD showed up. That's when I experienced the true meaning of EXHAUSION!!!  This little girl truly rocked my world and after a few weeks I was wishing I was pregnant again just to get some sleep.  I was fortunate enough to have a DD that woke up every 2-3 hours until she was 15 months old (note the sarcasm), and I worked full time, so it was a long year.  Now that we have a regular sleeping schedule, I am dreading the newborn stage again.

  • I am a first timer too and was sleeping great until 27ish weeks. Now I wake up at 4am on the dot every morning, and then every hour until I actually get up. I have sit up to roll over. The worst part is, I know it will only be worse when LO gets here. I have just excepted the fact that I will not be sleeping much for the next several years.
  • I much prefer non-sleeping with a newborn than non-sleeping pg! You're not uncomfortable anymore, your bladder can hold stuff again and the best part is the baby is there with you now. Plus, I found a remarkable amount of adrenaline those first few weeks keeping me awake during the day. But it is easier to get to sleep when you do catch those precious hours. Also, I remember the first time I got a 5 hour in a row stretch of sleep...not counting my sore, overflowing boobs, I felt like I had slept for an eternity! So I say, yes, sleep is easier with a newborn as wacky as it sounds.

Now, I'm just wondering how to sleep when a newborn is napping when my 2-year-old is up and running amok. Sigh.

Or a gigantic beanbag. I sleep SO much better since I got mine about a month ago.  I manage to sleep on my side without hip or shoulder pain, thanks to being "cradled," so I can lean backwards into it, if you know what I mean.

  • I was mostly being facetious and just venting but that's great that for some it is a little easier as pp said to not sleep with a baby than not sleep while pg.  I don't expect it to be easy at all though.  Thanks for the recliner suggestion!  I will try that tonight and see if it helps, it should help the heartburn anyway.  As much as I love Tums I'd rather not keep waking up (when I'm able to sleep) to munch more of them.  Too bad I don't have a beanbag but that's good to know too.
