My DD is a little over 12 months and only says like 2-3 words. She says mama, dada and at (for cat). She also makes a barking sound when she sees or hears a dog. She makes a hissing sound most of the time for a cat. She will see along when we sing Na Na Na Na Good bye song. (not the real words though). I am worried cause she doesn't say much. What do you think?
Re: How much does your 12 month old say?
No, I don't think that you should worry...at DS 15 or 18 month check up I remember the dr asking if he said at least 6 words (that we can understand.) So I'm sure in the next few months whe will start saying more words...I know DS definitely could say more words by 15 months than he did at 12 months.
I think that sounds pretty good. DS has been saying cat since he was 9 months, mama and dada since probably 11 months or so.
He just started saying cheese (more like chee) and started saying bubba and actually meaning bottle (before it was more like a babble) recently. He will say "kak kak" for quack quack when asked what a duck says and says "mmmm" for moo when asked what a cow says. These have all just picked up in the last few weeks.
We have Mama and Dada,
Kack = Duck (I think she means 'quack')
Gah= Dog
Cat= a high pitch meowing noise
Lion = Growling noises...works with bears too
Shoes = Shee-ehs
Georgia says the following....
Dada
Duck
Co-Co - for our neighbor's dog
No ma ma yet, though
