NTR: Please diagnose my refrigerator

We just moved into a new house about a month ago and prior to that, our fridge had been in use in my parent's garage. They didn't have any problems with it during the 3ish years it was there. Now, we've had it for about a month and it's not right. Most of the food is fine, except we cannot keep milk at the right temperature. It's too cold, so the milk gets all chunky and icy (tastes funny, not spoiled, but definitely weird). DH thought that maybe there was too much ice on the coils in the freezer, so we completely defrosted it last weekend. We've obviously fiddled around with the settings and tried making it less cold, but then the milk wasn't even cold at all, just room temp.

What the heck is going on? The fridge is about 10 years old so maybe it's just on it's last leg. Any ideas?

Re: NTR: Please diagnose my refrigerator

  • We were having issues with our fridge not maintaining proper temp a few months back (it is about 5 yrs old).  We had the Sears service guy come out to take a look at it and it turned out that the mother board was going bad (I had no idea that refrigerators even had mother boards!).  He replaced it and now it is working fine.  I think the total cost was about $100.
