Nursing bra advice, sizing

I was a 34D pre-pg and they haven't really grown so much as filled in more so sometimes I have to shove them back in but otherwise it is okay. For a nursing bra I was thinking that I would buy one up the next cup size and it should be okay for the time being but it doesn't look like a 34DD exists because I can't find one with that size. The band width fits me but not the cup so if i go up to a 36D I would be afraid it is not going to fit me over time from stretching. Anything equivalent to a 34DD then?

Anyone has any advice or clarity to give me that would be awesome, people in the stores were of no help.

Re: Nursing bra advice, sizing

  • Honestly, wait until your milk comes in and go get measured.  You might be surprised at how big the girls get.  Buy a nursing tank (love the ones from target and they're cheap!) to wear in the beginning.

I had plenty of support from my nursing tanks and my girls are huge!  I waited about 3 weeks and went to Nordstroms to get measured and bought good nursing bras then.

I agree with this.  My hospital has a little store where you can get fitted and it's really worthwhile.  Then once you figure out your size or what you like, you can always order online.

Good advice! The only reason I really wanted one right away was so I wasn't free falling it in the hospital and at home. I figured I would have to buy another one when my milk starts to really come in but buying a cami sounds like it would be more cost effective. Thank you!

  • I somewhat disagree about waiting mainly because bra shopping was the last thing I wanted to do/had time for in the first weeks. I had 2 Bravado bras (Body Silk Seamless) that I wore from end of pregnancy through engorgement through EPing a few months. I recommend Bravado all the time because a) really comfortable/great fit/easy and secure clips, b) that particular style stretched/offered enough support during engorgement without having to jump up a size for just the first weeks so no need to buy extra sizes, and c) they have every size imaginable and tons of info on how to choose a size (plus great customer service to help you with sizing if needed). You can buy them online or at a few retailers. Also, you may or may not see a big size change; I read somewhere it has to do with how dense your breast tissue is as opposed to how big; I have pretty dense breast tissue and went from a 34C to maybe a 36DD when fully engorged and then stayed a 34D the rest of the time I pumped.
  • I agree with the PP - loved my Bravado bras!

They were spendy but totally worth it!  I got two bras and a tank and I wore them nonstop for almost a year.  If I had gotten something cheap, I doubt they would have held up to all that abuse

I was fitted when I was about 38w along and they fit wonderfully when my milk came in.  I'm definitely glad I had them in the hospital.  Trying to learn how to get DS to properly attach took all of my focus, I'm so happy I wasn't trying to fight my bra too

    GL!

  • I agree with the PP who rec'd the Bravado bras. I just received my bravado bra in the mail and it's an H/I cup. I don't think you're going to have any trouble finding a DD. Nordstrom is also great-I'm pretty sure they have nursing bras that go up to H. I also got just one bra now to have in the beginning and figured I would order more/bigger/smaller ones as needed. GL!

I checked out their website and they have some great information and I love the fact that they have a lot more sizes too. I am going to do some more research but they definitely look like they are a good choice.
