Cloth Diapering

Cloth diapering and circumcision question

I am due in May and plan on CD'ing.  I am going to be using pockets/ AIO's.  We are having a boy and he will be circumcised while in the  hospital.  Would I just use a liner once we are home to keep the vaseline off the diaper?  Or is it better to use disposables until he is healed?

Sorry if this gets asked regularly.  I am just confused on what the best thing to do is.

Re: Cloth diapering and circumcision question

  • We had planned on using liners until the circ healed, but our pedi circumsized using the plastibell method.....which I had never even heard of.  Basically a little plastic "bell" was at the tip attached with a string and as it healed, the string loosened until it finally just fell off.  It was wonderful and required no care!  Plus it didn't affect CDing at all.  Before you go out and buy or make liners, maybe ask your pedi how they do it...if they use the same method, no need to worry!

ETA:  If they use the more traditional method and you do have to use vasoline...I'd just use liners, either fleece or disposable.

  • DS's after care instructions were to put Neosporin on some gauze and place that on the tip of his penis. We did that, and had no issues with CDs. We were using prefolds almost exclusively at the time, and they're less prone to repelling issues in general... if you're using pockets/AIOs, a fleece liner is probably a good idea.
