Experienced baby-wearers, I could use your advice!
Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to get an Ergo Performance or Sport for DH. I think overall Performance would be best (particularly bc he is hot all the time, and it's supposed to be cooler). But my concern is whether he needs the extra shoulder strap length of the Sport. And, from trying my Organic on him, I can see that the answer basically depends on how far down the waist belt is supposed to rest.
On me-- I'm hourglass-shaped-- I would put a belt slightly below my natural waist, so that the baby's weight is resting on my hips. But DH is 6'3" and 270, with a long torso, a barrel chest, and a big belly. I don't get where the belt is supposed to go on someone shaped like that. I would think it would go below his belly, down on his hip bones, but when your hips are smaller than your waist, can you really effectively distribute the baby's weight that way? Is the answer simply that you do put the belt that low, but you tighten it up much more than you would need to on an hourglass- or pear-shaped person? Or would he wear the belt up higher, closer to his waist (so, actually on his belly)?
