Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DS has turned into the devil

All he has done when we have been home over the last month or so is freak out.  I mean screaming for absolutely no reason.  The only thing that regularly consoles him is food.  He's been eating puffs like a mad man.  I have no idea why he's getting so angry and upset.  We have been doing mini time-outs... mostly out of the idea that he may be over stimulated.  He seems to calm down a little in the PNP, but still cries.  I know he's gotten teeth, but in the past, he's upset for a couple of days, and is ok by the time we see the tooth.  He's just so whiny!

Any ideas/suggestions/thoughts?  TIA!

  • DD gets super cranky when she's hungry.

Puffs aren't a great food for satisfying hunger, they're all carbs and sugar.  Will he take a more substantial snack with some protein: cheese stick, yogurt?

I don't think he's ACTUALLY hungry... just bored.  For instance, he had a bowl of oatmeal, juice, and yogurt melts for breakfast, stopped eating when he was full, then proceeded to freak when he was done.

  • Medication and drinks for Mama on a regular basis?

Just teasing.  Yeah, welcome to our wonderful club. The club where even happy things can result in a tantrum and you're left wondering what the hell just happened.

I hear it goes away by the time the go to college.

In all seriousness, teething and hunger will make tantrums more severe.  I try to keep Adam nice and full.  Teething tablets, if you can find them, work well for us too.

  • Maybe he is constipated and uncomfortable. I know that my doctor told me that the puffs was what was causing the constipation hence the pain.
