Eating sweets all through the day... help.

All I want to eat throughout the day are sweets. I drink quite a bit of milk and for a meal at home I'll usually eat something like a lunch meat sandwich, but throughout the day I'm eating cookies. I went through a whole package of Chips Ahoy yesterday. I can't get myself to eat anything healthy like fruits. How would you suggest I get enough nutrition? I of course take my daily prenatal vitamin but I don't feel like I'm doing enough.

  • I found that I was going crazy for sweets and it was making me feel like crap so I now keep a ready supply of Boost with extra protein on hand.  I find that half a bottle of that will help curb my desire for sweets.  I don't know if they are really that good for you but I'm pretty sure there's a bit more nutritional value then there is in the other crap I was eating!
  • I always crave sweets with my pregnancies, I could live off them. But I just don't buy them anymore. If they aren't in the house I, obviously, don't eat them. And god knows I won't go to the store at 11pm for ice cream, I'm far too lazy for that lol.

  • Try blending a smoothie with fruits like strawberries, bananas, blueberries. add some vanilla yogurt, ice and milk. Its good for you, tastes sweet and is very filling : )

Stop buying cookies. Start buying things that are healthier.

my husband's deployed overseas, and I flew back to our home state across the country and am staying with my parents during his deployment. So my mom will buy the cookies on her own. and if I see them in the drawer I get into them Embarrassed

I'm in the same boat!  My hubby is overseas and I'm living with my parents.  My mom also likes to buy sweets so I know your pain lol... I really can't say no if it's in the house I have NO self control.  But the smoothie thing sounds like a good idea!

  • I second the smoothie idea. I drink one every morning!

  • I'm the same way. I <3 sweets. I just don't buy them, they aren't in the house. I also find that if I had one of those bite size Hersheys after dinner or lunch, it really helped my craving. You still have to have self control to only eat one, or two. I haven't bought any in a while though.

Can you ask your mom to hide the sweets?

I'm currently with my parents too, and every night they make an all-fruit smoothie that is easy and really yummy, just liquify seedless red grapes to make the base and then add frozen strawberries and blueberries and blend! Add ice and blend again if it's not thick enough for your taste, and enjoy! It's at least one serving of fruit and lots of natural sugars to satisfy your sweet tooth.

You can also try chewing gum when you get cravings, just remember that the 'sugar-free' kind probably has artificial sweeteners so check ingredients if you're worried about that.

  • I'm having a similar problem with Christmas candy, which we seem to have a neverending supply of these days. I just try to limit myself to a certain number of pieces per day and then if I'm still craving something sweet I'll have an apple and some peanut butter, because that is sweet AND fills me up.

  • Well I tried the smoothie idea this morning and it seems pretty good!  I added plain oatmeal to mine, I like the texture it gives it.
