does the ANGLECARE work with a pack n' play?

the directions on the angelcare monitor say to put it on a flat surface under the mattress.  the video shows that you should put it on a board if the surface isnt flat enough.  Well pack n' play's dont have a mattress and are not as flat and sturdy as nursery cribs.  So I was wondering if the anglecare worked as well in a pack n play and if so how?  LO will be in an infant sleeper/pack n play in our room at first so I wanted to use the angelcare.

  • If LO will be in your room, why do you need the Angelcare in the PNP? She'll be right there...

  • you have to put a flat board under it.  You have to do that in your crib as well.  However there is also no hole to put the wires that go to the receiver.....so I don't use it in the pack n play because I don't want the wires going up and over the pack n play and anywhere near the baby.

  • We had this exact issue and while LO isn't here yet to fully test our solution, we are doing the following:

Flip over the pack n play mattress/pad so that the flat board slats are facing UP.  Then put the Angel Care motion sensor on top.  We found a pack n play/bassinett/crib/changing table replacement "mattress" pad at Babies R Us that was the correct size for our pack n play ($30 or less, I think and about a 1/2 - 1 inch thick) and placed that on top of the Angel Care motion sensor.  LO will sleep on the additional "mattress" pad.

     Hope that helps!

  • well I wont be watching her 24/7.  I will be sleep at some point or in another room or downstairs.  The anglecare monitor has a 20 sec response.  Call me a bad mom but I wont be looking in on her every 20sec.

Since I already have it I may as well use it.  I was just wondering if it worked as good in a pack n play (or the likes) as it would in the crib.

Can't you pull the wire through the mesh on the side of the pack n play?  That's what we plan to do....

The monitor goes off if LO stops breathing, so yes you would still use it even if baby is in your room with you.

Well the wire fits....but the end wont fit through the mesh so no.  I had this problem.  We used a cradle instead because of it.

exactly...its not a regular sound monitor.  It monitors movement and breathing.

Hmmm...I may consider making a TINY cut in the mesh to fit the end through...

I know what it does. I guess I just don't think it's necessary to use with the LO 2 feet away from me. Yes, I'll be sleeping at some point, but I don't expect to sleep very well. And, I don't plan to leave her in the PNP all day... I guess everyone's different though.

so basically you have no idea how the angelcare works in the PNP???  LOL  Sorry I'm just laughing because I dont recall asking if anyone thought it was necessary.

And then once your LO is moving enough to get to that hole, they can stick a finger in it and rip it open. Good idea.

That mesh is practically impossibe to rip, unless LO is the Incredible Hulk, however point taken.  I'll try to tuck the wire as well as possible, but it will have to go over the top of one of the sides to plug into the monitor.  By the time LO is moving around and there is a risk of him getting to the wire, he'll be sleeping in his crib.  Basically, I want to use the motion sensor regardless of whether he is in a PNP in our room or in his crib in his room.

  • We used it in a pack and play when travelling with DD.  We did what another mentioned, used two mattresses, one on the bottom, then the monitor, then the top mattress.  As for the wire, we made a tiny slit in the bottom of the pack and play, beneath the mattresses and fed the wire through there.  I know some people may feel that the Angelcare is overkill if the baby is in the room with you, but we used it non-stop with DD.  We lost our son previously and DD was on an apnea monitor for the first six months (purely for our sanity - no breathing issues).  Once the monitor had to be returned, I still couldn't sleep without something monitoring her.  The Angelcare did the trick.  So, to each their own.

  • thanks Campbell and FlState, I'll try your suggestion.  Using another mattress seems simple enough and makes sense.  I hadn't thought to turn the PNP pad over and use it for the flat surface.  ;)

  • A friend used the PnP with both her sons for 6 months and used the Angelcare monitor.  I know she used a piece of plywood to go under the mattress, and I believe they fed the wire down through the bigger part of the PnP instread of up and over since LO slept in the bassinet part.
