WDYT of Harlan for a boy?

We have decided on a middle name- James because it is my husband's middle name and his dad's first name.  We are having an incredibly hard time agreeing on any boy first names. This is one that he suggested tonight and I sort of like it...which is progress...

Just to give you an idea, here are some names I like that DH vetoed. Just in case you have other suggestions for us:

Everett, Sebastian, Thatcher, Owen 

DH likes names like (which I vetoed): Silas, Arthur, Bruce

Is Harlan supposed to be a girl name?  I know a Harlan, in his 50s? I always thought it was a boy name, and a fine one.

My friend had a little boy and named him Harlan a few months ago. He's Harlan Joseph and I think it's different while not being uneek. I like it!

Sorry, now that I think about it, the title of my post did come off like I thought it was typically used for girls instead.  You are right, it is most commonly used as a boy name. I wasn't sure if people would be familiar with it, so that's why I put "for a boy?" in the title Thank you for your response.

I like it - though it does remind me of Harlan Pepper from the movie Best in Show - which is not a bad thing since I love that movie

I really like it and I think that it goes beautifully with James.  It is even better because it is not used much.  Ok, I changed my mind, I love it!

I really like the name Harlan.  We're not pg yet, but it's on our list.   First heard of it when we read a book by Harlan Ellison when I was in college, but I've never met a Harlan in person.
