Almost 16mon...no luck with loveys

DS will not attach to a lovey. I've tried everything. We bedshare and he has to have at least one hand on me all night long. It's kinda funny...like baby sonar. He starts moving his hand around with his eyes closed until he finds me. Is there still hope for a lovey? I would really love for him to attach to something to ease our night time struggles.

  • DS doesn't have a lovey. We didn't start trying to get him attached to one until after he turned 1 (we didn't want anything in the crib prior to that due to the SIDS risk). I think it's best left up to the child though, it's pretty hard to force that kind of attachment.

  • we had some early flickers of interest, but nothing that stuck beyond a few days. i tried to intro a lovey for the same nighttime-awareness reasons you mention. plus, i'd just read NCSS and was hoping it would help.

i tried a number of different sized things, all fabulous and painstakingly chosen by me. then, my grandmother gave all the great-granddaughters (3 of them) identical generic teddy bears for xmas this year. she probably got them as an impulse buy at target :)

for reasons i cannot explain, this seems to be the lovey. sprout and this bear have just clicked. it's only been a week, but none of our previous attempts ever lasted this long.

i think the kiddos do all the picking. you can make an attempt, but you can't make it happen. at least, i never could...

  • LOL.  It wasn't until DS reached about 22 mos. when he casually started carrying around a nightshirt of mine.  Since then I've officially abandoned it and decided it's his.

There is still hope for you.

  • DD never had one. When she's tired she wants to touch her belly button and rub her ear, but there's nothing that she cuddles with. She eventually grew out of the need to touch me all night long, but I also moved her to her own floor bed at 16mo.

  • Kiddo still doesn't really have a lovey.  He has taken an interest in his stuffed animals in the last couple of months and has one puppy he particularly likes, but he doesn't have to have it to go to sleep.  We are encouraging it in terms of "finding puppy" as part of the bedtime routine, but in a way it's nice that he's not attached to any one thing.  But he sleeps on his own now and seems ok without one!
  • My ds never had a lovey and it never concerned me.
