Brrr... Our Furnance Stopped Working (vent)!

I'm home from work today cleaning and preparing for a dinner party tonight and realize that it is a little chilly. I look at the thermostat and it says 59 degrees!

The guy just got here and it's going to cost $400 to fix. Boo!

On one hand I feel lucky because we have lived in our house for 4 years and haven't had any major expenses, but on the other, everything was completely replaced or remodled before we bought it (so essentially we paid up front to not have to deal with repairs).

Grr. I have been crabby as it is and this set back is not helping.

I know it could be worse, but I just had to vent. Sorry.

  • Ughh, that sucks!  Hopefully you can get it fixed soon!
  • That is not a fun 400 bucks to spend...

I hope you still can have your dinner party!!  DH and I are visiting friends tonight since, as DH says, "We'll be hosting next year because who can afford to hire a babysitter on NYE...oh geeze, we're 'those people'...like people with KIDS!"

  • Yike! I hope you get it fixed soon! Don't you hate when things in your house break? Our oven broke a little while ago and it's so annoying. It makes me kinda wish we still rented!

from one MN to another- That sucks! I'm sorry-- but $400 for a broken furnace isn't as bad as it could be! ours had some issues last winter- we were looking at needing a complete replacement- $3,000!!!!!

Do you have the service plan through your gas co?? we have centerpoint all maintenance and repairs are free..

I tried to sign up for Service Plus today, but unfortunetly it wouldn't cover it because it was considered pre-existing.

All of our appliances are fairly new, so I didn't think we needed it. I know better now!

  • Our furnace goes out every winter too and it's a PITA. And we live in MN like you where it can be pretty chilly to say the least. Good luck my dear! I hope it doesn't mess up your plans for tonight.

Ours was last year November and $5000.  We did get the "cadillac" of all furnaces, and with the rebates it was only $300 more for a variable blower that's supposed to make it run less.  Our gas bill is about $30 less a month so I guess it was worth it.  Unfortionately we can't take the furnace when we sell the house.

  • Yikes! I can't stand being cold. If you lived closer, I would invite you over. Sorry, girl.
