Re: Did you cut out coffee completely?

  • No. I have one cup in the am and occassionally another in the afternoon.

I pick decaf about half the time, but I don't sweat it either.

  • I was a 3 cup a day minimum girl before the BFP. Now I might have one cup a week. I also drank at least one diet coke a day but have pretty much cut that out too. If we go out to dinner I'll "treat" myself to one.

  • Yes, but I only had (at most) one cup a week, so it wasn't like giving up coffee was akin to sawing off my left arm. I haven't given up chocolate though, because that WOULD be akin to me sawing off my left arm.

Don't sweat it. Enjoy your cup a day. It is accepted to be fine by most medical professonals.

  • i started weening myself off it when i was TTC, so now i don't drink any at all, and i miss it a little bit, but it's not terrible.
  • Nope, I had coffee everyday 1-2 times with my first and I'm doing the same with my second. Without coffee I'd be a walking zombie, so I figured the world would be better off.
  • Not of my own will.  Before I got pregnant it was 3 cups a day.  Now it makes me want to lose my breakfast so I'm not drinking it anymore.  I really miss it.

  • a cup or so is fine. I cut it out for the most part, but if I'm in desperate need of a boost I get myself a cup of coffee.
  • I worked graveyard while PG. There was no way I could stay awake at work and not have coffee. I'd have 1-2 cups a day, or 1 double shot latte.
  • Yes, but only because the taste of coffee is gross to me now.  If I still enjoyed it, you can bet that I'd still be drinking every day.
  • I'll probably limit myself to one caffeine drink a day, that's what I did with my last two pregnancies.

  • Yes and this is coming from a girl who LIVES for the warm bean smell and flavor of the office dunkin donuts coffee. I mean it, Id have like 3 cups of the stuff. And the girls at work made it like rocket fuel. But upon learning of my pregnancy I cut it to just one cup. Then half a cup. Then black tea which the nurses at the obgyn office said had more caffeine than coffee. But I kinda blew that off, cause seriously, rocket fuel? or black tea which felt way better on my stomach anyway. Id make it like a chai with milk and a tiny bit of sugar and was really tasty. Now im on strict herbal, and water to get me through the day. I kicked the caffeine for good, and I don't really miss it. Good luck ladies if your trying to kick caffeine as well. I didn't get any of the dreaded headaches as bad cause I didn't go cold turkey. So thats my story. On to the NEXT TOPIC!
  • Hell no. I still have about 2 cups most days.  I did my last pg too.  I wouldn't be able to function running around after a toddler and a full time job otherwise.
  • I don't drink coffee but I do drink Dr.Pepper. I NEEEEED my Dr.Pepper.

Here is an article about foods and beverages to avoid in pregnancy from the mayo clinic. It suggests limiting caffeine to less than 200mg per day.

  • I used to drink 1 large mug with about 1/4 - 1/2 milk in the am, sometimes two. Went to 1 after starting TTC, and then stopped cold turkey (with an occasional decaf) the day I got the BFP.

I also used to drink quite a bit of Diet Coke, which I cut out a few weeks before TTC and havent had any since.

Oddly enough, I have NO desire to drink even decaf now. And, I havent wanted a sode in awhile. I am kind of glad I cut those out of my life, anyways!

  • Never been much of a coffee drinker, but yes, I did cut out the little I did have before.  This was entirely because the smell of coffee makes me so so sick!  I heard a cup or two is fine- just not shots of espresso :)

  • "What to expect" has a good explanation about how much caffeine you can safely take in.  I am diet coke addict, and according to the book, I could technically have FOUR a day!  I have limited myself to 1 a day (used to have 2 per day).

  • Last PG i cut it out completely. This PG i might have a decaf but will not have a reg coffee.

Too much caffeine for me in one cup bc i need some tea or soda at some point during the day.

  • WIth my last pregnancy I only had one cup of coffe a day in the morning and I will follow that guideline with this pregnancy.

My OB at the time gave me some paper work on recommendations while pregnant and it stated that is important to limit caffiene intake. I think it is personal prefernce with the mother to be though. Smile

  • I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am definitely a tea connoisseur. Just to be safe I'm staying away from them until my doctor okay's some of them at my first prenatal visit. At first it was really challenging to establish a new routine because I drink tea for comfort, but I've found my "new normal" for baby's sake. LOL

  • I cut out tea, coffee, soda (except ginger ale)...

But yesterday I went to tealuxe and got an herbal tea that is all dried fruit only... I know some herbal teas are bad, but I'm looking forward to one with dried strawberries, papaya, and cherries... YUM... I may even drink it as iced tea with a bit of honey.  :)

  • umm.. not completely. i do get my favorite, iced vanilla coffee, from mcdonalds every now and then. but i drink tea, and i switched from regular to decaf earl gray, seriously-there's no difference in taste. thank goodness for that.
  • I used to have one medium coffee every morning and switched to a small every morning and my OB said that was absolutely fine.

I'm also a tea drinker, but I cut out all the caffeinated teas. I'll have peppermint every once in awhile, but my new favorite is to squeeze two slices of lemon into hot water with honey. I'm obsessed with it! It tastes good and satisfies my craving for something warm and comforting in the morning...

  • I failed!!! I was all gungho about completely quiting caffeine. Then I had these really vivid dreams that would wake me every hour at night. So I started back on the black tea, now i'm on green tea. I gotta have some green tea every morning or I get these awful headaches that last for days. I'm totally addicted again. But green tea has less than black and way less than coffee. So I'll consider that my happy middle.
