Hi, I saw your post about ovarian torsion and your visit to the ER last week. The same exact thing happened to me last week! The pain was UNBELIEVABLE. They operated on me and managed to save my ovary - it wasn't going to untwist on its own. I just wanted to say hi and that I hope the pain has totally gone away for you.

Thanks for the nice note!! I, fortuantely, haven't needed surgery (yet). They're watching me like a hawk, though, and we go back again on Monday for more scans. I'm so sorry you had to go through this!!
Did they start off with the possibility of appendicitis? Then look for kidney stones? Then diagnosis you with gastrointestinitis and a UTI? That's what the initial diagnosis was... Day two was a little different -- my RE and the on-call OB/GYN determined it was ovarian torsion. But, prior to that, the list went on and on of things they were looking for... I don't know that the ER we went to knew what they were doing, or had much experience with my situation...
So far, so good, on my end. The pain is mild, although still there, its nothing like it was! As for you, I really hope you're feeling better this week!! Rest up!
I give you a lot of credit for endurance. I got really lucky, my RE had warned me about ovarian torsion the week before because the ultrasound showed that my ovaries were HUGE. He raised it even though it's so infrequent. I think he probably saved my ovary with just an offhand mention, because I was able to tell the attending doc at the ER that my RE had been on the lookout for this, and I think it saved me hours if not days of misdiagnosis.
I actually collapsed and started vomiting at work - the pain, oh my gosh, I was trying to explain it to friends afterwards and my words didn't come anywhere close, but I bet you understand exactly what I mean - and they called an ambulance that took me to a hospital in NYC that is really well-known for emergency/trauma (it's actually the same place they took the Spiderman actor when he had that terrible fell on Broadway a couple of weeks ago). The docs there were incredible, really decisive. I got wheeled in at 10:30 AM, diagnosed via ultrasound by noon (I could tell they were kind of reading up on ovarian torsion because they started administering the really hard-core painkillers, which is what the medical books say to do because the pain is intolerable), and they operated with laparoscopy at 2:30. As soon as I woke up, I felt 100% better from the torsion, just the aftereffects of the anesthesia after that. My ovary was twisted three times - they actually gave me PICTURES. I spent 1 night at the hospital and went home on Christmas Eve.
I hope they take really good care of you at your follow-up appointment on Monday! Good luck with the scans!
