Show me your 5-month-olds' schedule

We've been on a EAS schedule with roughly 3-hour cycles, and that's worked until recently. But lately, the "roughly" is getting rougher. I'd like to start working on a more precise schedule, and I'd really like to see some longer and more consistent naps. (My guys usually don't sleep longer than 45 minutes during the day, but it's all over the board.)

If your kids were on a schedule at this age, will you let me know what it looked like?

Re: Show me your 5-month-olds' schedule

  • Give or take....

8:00-up for the day with a couple of oz of formula.  They aren't big eaters-never have been.

10:00-the finish the six oz bottle from the morning and nap for about an hour.

    11-12:30 or 1:00-play/eat

1ish-4:30 or 5:30 sleep-one usually wakes at some point but, they'll go back to sleep within 45 min of getting up.

    5:30-7:30-play/eat

7:30-8:00ish-short nap-I'd die to get rid of this nap but, they just don't want to give it up.

8:30-eat and down for the night.

I do dream feed both between 11:00-11:30 pm and they have slept until 8:00 the next morning.  If I don't dream feed them they are up at 2:30 to eat again.

They've put themselves on this schedule and have been on it for quite a while now.

  • I have really inconsistent nappers too, and we're just developing a more predictable pattern at almost 5mo.   Nights are mostly good, though.

Wakeup is usually between 6:15 and 7am - BF both then, then about every 2.5 hours during the day.

first nap is about 1.5-2 hours after wakeup, and is no longer than 45 min. They are usually ready to eat when they wake up from this nap, and I can get them to take it in their cribs without too much of a fight.

next nap is 2 hours after waking up from first, and is usually about 1/2 hour.  I try to get them to sleep in their cribs for this nap, too.

afternoons are a crap shoot - they take at least one more nap, if it's an hour early afternoon, they fight a  4th nap, but start crapping out by 5pm.   If third nap is shorter, I can usually get a catnap around 4/5 and dinner time is more pleasant.   They usually nap in the swing or bouncy in the afternoon.

get them ready for bed around 5:30/6 depending on how cranky they are.   Nurse them one at a time and put to bed.  (Trying to tandem feed at bedtime became a nightmare)  They are usually both asleep by 6:30.

One sleeps the whole night (after waking up crying a few times early in the evening until she's completely settled)  and the other goes to sleep perfectly, but wakes up to eat around 4am.

  • This is pretty much exactly what we have going on, except that our go-down time is about 7:30 pm, and our wakeup time is about 7:30 am.
