Parenting after a Loss

When did you stop swaddling?

Okay, I'm not even going to bother apologizing for being a bad bumpie, because it's probably getting old.  :(

But I do have a question . . . for those that swaddled on a regular basis at night, when did you stop?  How did you make the transition?  DD has been STTN for about 2-3 weeks now, and we are scared to death to change the routine that has worked so well!  We know that we have to start transitioning her to the crib soon, but I just wan't sure about the swaddle.

  • Still swaddling, no plans to stop until he lets us know he doesn't want it anymore. For now, he still loves to be swaddled.

  • When she kept breaking out is when we transitioned to the sleep sack.  I LOVE swaddling her, and would even swaddle her for naps.  But she started breaking out just before Thanksgiving (so just before 4 months).  If she tolerates it, I'd keep on swaddling.

Have you gone back to work yet?  What's your status?

  • We stopped 3 weeks ago and it was only because A got the chickenpox and when she did she wanted as little material touching her skin as possible. She screamed if we tried to swaddle her, so we let her lay there awake for the first couple nights and then she eventually went to sleep on her own. It was sort of serendipitous. Big Smile

  • oh, i don't know. too early, like a month. maybe two. i don't remember. i didn't want to. my criteria for stopping was she was rolling onto her tummy and i didn't want to keep her arms swaddled. sigh. i miss the swaddle. i loved the swaddle. i didn't want to stop using the swaddle.
  • We stopped at 5 months when we sleep trained.  He couldn't go to sleep without it, but was breaking out constantly - not a good situation.  We sleep trained and he learned to roll to his stomach for belly sleeping all at the same time, which worked out nicely.

  • We quit when he was breaking loose, at over 4 months old.  It's safe to continue swaddling until LO breaks loose or is rolling over.  We then just switched him to a Halo Sleepsack instead.

  • We had to wean DS a few weeks ago. He started rolling over so no more swaddle. We did a slow wean though. We started with one arm out and then went to both. Now he is only in a sleep sack.
