Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Im not sure how to put this..

Does your LO hate to be alone?

My LO will play by herself, But someone has to be in sight at all times. If you walk out of the room to get her a snack or a drink, just to grab something, she starts to whine and run to find you.. and needless to say bed time is hell. If i just lay her in her crib tired, she will not put herself to sleep. I cant leave the room, or she will cry for what seems forever. If i do get her to go down in her crib, she wakes in the middle of the night, sees she is alone and cries.. Until i get her calmed back down and back to sleep.. a few hours go by.. the same thing happens again, she wakes, cries, i comfort and back to sleep. If she is sleeping with me we dont have the night time wakings.. I need some help and advice. The Pedi said that its okay to let her cry. But i just cant do it for a long time. We have tried, and it just didnt seem to work. All i got was a crying baby, and none of us got any sleep.

  • DS is like this during the day too.  If I even run to the kitchen for a drink, he FREAKS out.  And God forbid I have to pee ......

As far as bed time goes, we had the same problem too.  Now, thank God, he puts himself to sleep.  I got a lot of really good advice from The No-Cry Sleep Solution.  I used some tips from there and also let DS CIO a few times (and he NEVER cried more than 5-7 minutes) and we are good.  Check out that first book though & GL!

  • We dont really have problems at bed time, but during the day if she is in the living room playing and I step into the kitchen or bathroom, my daughter starts screaming and crying. She doesnt like being alone either.

  • DS was like this for several months.  I made a point of telling him what I was going to do, and that I would be right back.  He followed me everywhere for months (including into the bathroom).  Now, he seems to understand what is happening and continues playing if I leave for a few minutes.

For bedtime and night wakings, we used the Sleep Lady Shuffle.  You can google it.

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
