DD doesn't swallow certain types of food

My DD's been great about eating - we started a combination of homemade mashes, purees and BLW a little after she turned 6 months.  With mushy food or anything that melts or breaks down in her mouth she does great, but with food that doesn't dissolve she won't ever swallow.

I've been poking around in her mouth during feedings (which is a scary thing due to 6 teeth) and I'm finding stuff like a dozen  blueberries that she hid in her cheek or, yesterday, a piece of egg that I gave her an hour earlier.

I'm really worried about her choking.  Any idea how I can get her to actually swallow this stuff?  We're so lucky that she'll take just about anything, but now it's just a matter of it going down.

  • As a mom of a special needs child in therapy, I would contact your pedi.

You need to get down to WHY she won't swallow it before you can get her to swallow it.  It could be something as little as teething making her gums sore, or an issue with the textures, or something physical such as she's got poor coodination with her tongue to move the food around.
