Godparents, One per child or One for both

We are having a dilemma. We are trying to decide if we should get godparent for both boys or let them each have one. I am concerned if one has a better godparent than the other (like my sister and I). I could really use some suggestions and what you did. Thanks!

I've recently started thinking about this as well.. I'm curious to see what others have done.

the godparent thing isn't taken too seriously in our families. It's more for the rite of baptism than an actual figurehead that acts like a second mother or father.

That said my H is an only child with a very small extended family and I only have one brother and one sister (the rest are half or step sibs, and as far as I'm concerned they don't count). So our twins will have the same godparents (my bro and sis).

I felt pretty strongly about not having friends be the babies' godparents because friendships come and go, even good ones.

We decided to have our siblings be the godparents.  I have twin brothers and he has one sister, so we debated for a while whether or not we wanted to find another female friend to be the godmother for one or not.  We ended up not doing that, and just having his sister be the godmother for both, and my brothers were each the godfather for one. 

We were going to have two sets of friends do it, but then got to thinking about the fact that we may regret it if we were no longer friends down the road.  I wouldn't have been worried about that at all, except that we've only been married 5 years and no longer speak to either our MoH or our best man from our wedding.  She went crazy practically overnight and tried to turn my own husband against me while he was deployed, and the best man married DH's sister and then cheated on her and divorced her a year later.  After all of that, we're leary of giving non-family members any kind of roles or titles that could cause problems later.

We are having 2 sets for each child. Most of our family lives out of state and we didn't want one of the kids to have a Godparent that's local and the other one have one that is out of the state. So each will have one local and one out of state family member as Godparents.

Congrats.. We went w/ two different ones for each.  My sister & brother are for DD & my BFF & my DH's BFF are for DS, so we didn't actually go w/ couples b/c we were running into the problem of one not being catholic or so.

Each of our boys have 3 godparents each. All of them are family members except for one-she has been my best friend for 9 years. Tage's godparents are my brother, his wife, and my best friend. Taylen's godparents are DH's 2 cousins and DH's brother. We wanted them each to have their own set of godparents and we wanted it all to be family but we both agreed that we wanted Lauren (best friend) in their lives and they would benefit greatly from her being a part of their lives in that way. Granted, none of this is on paper yet. My boys won't be baptised until April (RSV season is over) because they were preemies.

My BIL is godfather to all 3 of mine. My cousin is godmother to my DS and other cousin to the girls. BIL is awesome, so if one or both cousins flake then DC's still have a great role model and godparent.

one set of godparents for both of them. husband best friend his wife are going to be. it took a long time. they have no children but will be the other couple our children will be around. and our prents will be to old.

Preston's godparents are my oldest brother and his wife

Jordana's are my 2nd oldest brother and my younger sister

Brady's are my youngest sister and my future brother in law

 

We did each child have their own since i am one some many siblings

We have one set for both, mostly because we don't have very many friends/family members that are catholic.  My brother is the Godfather and our good friend is the Godmother.

We're Catholic, and the requirement was that at least one of the pair had to be a Catholic in good standing.  I only even know one (SIL), so that just left her and my brother for both.

We did one per child because we looked at it as this...if they weren't twins and there was an age difference, we would do one per child so why should it be any different?

While they are twins and we realize that is a special bond, we also want to treat them as individuals.

We asked 2 different sets of family/friends to be godparents. 

 So one M/F "couple" per child,  4 different people.

We have 2 godmothers and 1 godfather for both girls. All 3 of them loved the girls equally, we couldn't ask them to choose or choose for them to be a godparent to just one.

We have a set of godparents for each twin. I actually have my brother and sister in law and my cousin and brother in law.
