OMG, I hate that! I always feel on edge now that if our dog hears someone outside he'll start barking. Last night I was showering and DH was upstairs as well when the dog started barking downstairs. I waited a bit and he still kept barking. I finally ran out of the shower completely naked and soapy to see what was going on. That's when DH finally ran downstairs to shut him up. Luckily that didn't wake DD up!
Ugh, I hate that. One of our dogs always goes CRAZY when DH gets home from work. Which is usually when DS is sleeping. Now he comes in through the back door and meets her outside so she can get her crazy out!!
Our dog happens to bark for everyone coming to the house (except for me)...its like everyone has a special announcement.
So, when DH is coming home or when I know someone is coming over I ask them to call me when they are parking the car (I only make this request when DS is sleeping), and I take that cue and put our little protector in another room/gated area away from the door...this way he won't wake our LO up. Works great!
I'm also noticing our little furbaby will bark randomly (maybe its a sound he can hear but we can't), when DS is napping. So I also hang out with him in our bedroom (with the door closed) while DS nap is taking place.

It has 99% cured the problem.
I really like the phone call idea. I will have to start employing that! I think that may help the issue.

Its great, let me know how it works for ya.
Oh, the 1% is when either people forget to call before they come to the door, or I have an unexpected visitor (which rarely occurs - but does happen).
Re: The dog just HAD to go wake up A tonight.
