night time parenting question

We bedshare full time. Before I go to bed LO wakes up every hour or so till I come to bed. Once I go to bed she seems to wake up every 3 hours. She will be 11 months old soon. She toss and turns until I feed her. I know it's just for comfort. I was wondering how long you comfort feed at night. She has never slept more then 4 hours

I also wanted to know if any other mommas have experienced this. At night when she is sleeping once in a while it's like she has spasms in her belly muscles or like her heart is beating super fast/hard. I can't really explain it. I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced it at all. I may mention it at her next Dr appointment.

TIA

Re: night time parenting question

  • Im in the same boat. DD wakes up constantly and tries to nurse all night. Sometimes she goes back to sleep with a pacifier, but most times she flings it out of her mouth and screams till I nurse her. One night she actually climbed on top of me, opened my shirt and started nursing while I was sleeping. LOL

  • We are in the same boat and I'm starting to wonder if it will get better. DD nurses all night and doesn't even sleep an hour without me. I would really like for her to sleep longer on her own so I can have some me time, and time with DH.
  • I let him nurse until he gets lazy with the sucking. then I slip my finger in and slide my nipple out (the finger is a must otherwise his teeth clamp down on my nipple, which is shredded enough already.) If he fusses and roots for more than a second I give it back and try again in a few minutes. Most nights I get it the first or second try. If he won't unlatch or cluster feeds all night, then I know something else is going on - teething pain or congestion or something.

When I wear the easy crossover bra to sleep in, he's been known to open it and help himself. Lately i've been sleeping in the nursing tank I wear during the day (bravado - the BEST) and he can't unlatch it, so if he's just looking for comfort then he settles for snuggles or fusses until I open up - then I let him latch and unlatch when he dozes back off.

One night I woke up and he had been trying to latch through my shirt - I was totally engorged and leaking, so I think that triggered his interest. Oops!

The No Cry Sleep Solution has some more suggestions for stretching out hours of sleep when you bedshare.

    Good luck!

  • I don't know the answer to your second question, but for your first question, that sounds pretty normal to me. I really don't know how long DS BF for at night because I usually go right back to sleep.
