need help with DD

I'm starting to get very frustrated and annoying and I need advice!  My 3 year old has started acting up.  She will be 4 in March.  She doesn't do what I ask of her and will sometimes do exactly what I tell her not to do.  I do time out which doesn't phase her at all.  She also doesn't sleep well at night.  My husband was awake in the night last night and watched her for a while and she tossed and turned all night.  He said she was never still.  She also gets up in the night and comes to our room so we are walking back and forth several times a night.  I think if hse slept better she would be better behaved during the day.  I feel like I have a "bad" child and I don't know what to do!  My next step is to start taking away toys.  I'm not opposed to spanking but she is like this so much of the time that I think we just be constantly spanking.   When I talk to my friends none of them can think of suggestions for me and lots say their kids are the same way.  Some days are fine also, and she isn't acting up for other people or at school.  I know she is testing me but I punish her every time so she knows she won't get away with it but she just doesn't care about being punished.

Sounds like she's overly and you're right she's testing you. It's sucks, but you are going to have to be the bad guy and consistently put her in time out, remove her from situations. Does she nap? If not, how about some mandatory down time. DD doesn't nap, but she knows she has to have down time to relax and play quietly.

Follow through with everything you say.

She does nap. She is actually pretty good at staying in her bed and playing until she falls asleep.

She might not need a nap if she's sleeping that poorly at night. How does she sleep at night when she misses a nap? If you still need her to nap, try quiet time instead w/ a book or one quiet toy.

And perhaps take her to the pedi regarding sleep issues, if there's anything else going on there.
