So the last few weeks I've noticed our morning diaper stinks. Like bad. Not ammonia, more of a pungent skunky smell. It doesn't seem to be happening with any of our other diapers...just the nighttime ones. We either use a MSO or a Flip cover with one of the organic inserts. Two things have changed since this all started.
1. I switched from Tide to RnG Hard Rock. It seems to working great. Diapers come out clean and the inserts all smell fresh out of the dryer including the problem nighttime ones.
2. I put CJs BUTTer on everynight now as a precaution since our overnight diapers are not stay dry. It's the only time I use it. I have a hard time believing this is the cause...but it is a new addition since the stink so I thought I'd mention it.
Any suggestion on what might be causing this sudden change? Last night I used our new Twinkie Tush fitted and this morning, no stink....so I definitly know it's the diapers and not DS.
Re: Having a stink issue...any advice?
Hmm, odd that it's skunky but not ammonia-y, because we have skunky diapers at times from using too much detergent when I space out and use the amount it says on the bag, and ammonia from overnight diapers. I would guess it's not the CJ's because so many people use it and apparently love it (I'm waiting eagerly for it to show up in the mail) and don't have stink issues.
In an Abby's Lane newsletter recently they advised skipping the cold soak/rinse before washing on hot if you have stink issues, and we've been doing that with pretty good success. You can also try using a little less detergent (our Hard Rock bag says 2 TB, but I use 1-1.5).
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice! I actually agree that it may be too much detergent. I'm paranoid of not having clean diapers...so I probably use 2 rather heaping TB. I will cut back and see what happenes. I don't need to strip or rock a soak first do I?
