I had my first ob appt a couple days ago and everythign went fine. Next up is the nt scan at a little over 12 weeks and then my next ob appt at 14 weeks. My ob told me that unless there is a problme they would probably only see me everr 4 weeks but that doesnt seem like enought with twins.
I have no reason to think anythign will be wrong, but I'm full of anxiety. Should I demand cervical checks every two weeks after 14 weeks? Did you have them?
Re: Cervical check every 2 weeks necessary?
They had me go every 2 weeks from 16 weeks to 28 weeks with not only my twins but my younget singleton. I believe that the impromptu cervical check saved my youngest son's life (totally not exaggerating). At 23 weeks exactly I was at 2.5 and at my regular appoitment at 23w4d, they did an impromptu one and I was at 1.0, funneling and my his water bag was buldging. I was immediately sent to the hospital, put in trundle position and 2 days later had a cerclage.
I was monitored closer though since I had a cone biopsy several years before I got pregnant with my twins.
And at *every* visit since they found out I'm having twins, they do both an internal u/s (to measure cervical length) and an external to make sure the babies are growing at the proper rates, amniotic fluid levels are good, etc.
You don't want them to check your cervix-- they don't do it because all that poking around can often do more damage than good (introduce bacteria, stimulate contractions...). The only time they checked me was once I got to 34w bc I was having serious BH ctx. They checked me in the hospital bc it was PTL, but it was fine. Then, they looked three more times until I had my section.
I think normally they check every 4 weeks, then after 34?? weeks it goes to every 2 weeks. Not to sure.
I don't think you want to be checked all the time because there is always a risk of infection.
