Does you LO have a TV in their room? (clicky)

My friend brought her 3 yr. old DD over last night. While her child was busy trying to destroy my son's toys (grrrrrrrr), she informed me that the "best" thing was the new addition of their old 60" TV in their daughter's room. They even went out and bought her a DVD player so that she could watch her movies upstairs and they could watch cable downstairs. I just said "oh, wow!" and left it at that. I don't really care if you allow your kid to watch tv or have a tv in their room but a 60" set seemed ridiculous....especially since her daughter's room is small.

Re: Does you LO have a TV in their room? (clicky)

  • I like "when they buy their own." I bought myself a television for my bedroom around age 16 when I was working and I think that would be just fine. Before that, however, as my DD likes to say, no way. I'm not a huge fan of televisions in the bedroom in general, and the only reason we have one was that I was going nuts pumping at all hours when DD was new with nothing to keep me awake. It rarely gets turned on now.
  • Loading the player...
  • A has one in his room but it's more because his room was the guest room and we had to run the cable all across the perimeter of the room and we don't really have anywhere else to have the TV. We turn it on for diaper changes (sometimes helps, sometimes not) and he'll run in and turn it on and then maybe something will catch his ear when he's in there, but he's not an avid TV watcher either.

    I voted SS.

  • She does but it's not hooked up to anything. We put it in there when we got a new flat screen for storage. As soon as we get around to getting a big moving van we will take it to donating.
  • DS has one in his room, but it was meant for me when he still nursed in the middle of the night. It was just an old one we put in there.  I wasn't thinking though, that I'd never nurse in there, when there was a big comfy couch and big TV in the next room!  So, I've probably turned it on twice ever :)  DH turned it on to watch football while playing with DS the other day, and I had totally forgotten it worked...haha!

When DS gets older I'll probably take it out, since I don't think a preschooler needs a tv, but when he gets older (teen years or so) I'm sure I'll let him have one, I did and I turned out fine!

  • No tv in his room but I have one in mine for those nights I want to watch a movie and be really comfy (no cable connected to it).  Some mornings he will come into bed with me and we will watch baby einstein but usually it is just for me.
