Purging toys - What are you getting rid of?

Now that I could stock the shelves of Toys R Us with what's in my living room right now, I desperately need to get rid of some toys. DH thinks I should toss out their leapfrog music table, ball popper, stacking cups and blocks, and all stuffed animals. But I feel like they still play with everything, I just don't know what to purge....What are you getting rid of now that you have new toys?

Re: Purging toys - What are you getting rid of?

  • I've been eying all her toys from when she was a few months old...teethers (Sophie), rattles, crinkly rattle toys, stuff that you can attach to a stroller.
  • Loading the player...
  • We're doing that too.  G plays with her Laugh and Learn Home, but I want to get rid of it.  She doesn't play with it a ton and she has other toys now, so it's taking up space.  The music table is another great idea.  Stacking cups too.  We still have her infant toys around.  My problem is that I have 2 friends TTC and I wanted to pass on some of that stuff but we also don't have the room to hold on to it forever.

  • I've been trying to do the same. It's hard, isn't it!? I am basically throwing away anything that DS no longer cares about(or never cared bout), as long as it isn't something DD would like. Like the music table and ball popper...he doesn't play with those too often, but he did LOVE them, and I feel like they are such classic baby toys, so am saving those for DD. We've recently thrown out some of his little sports stuff. Like he had a little baseball thing. He never played with it much and I feel that's something DD can live without.

  • DS didn't get a huge amount of toys....he just got LARGE toys. I have a pint sized ride on pedal John Deere tractor with a trailor wagon, a tricycle and a masive  dumptruck in my living room. None of it can go outside until the spring. Boo.

What I hate is that everytime I go to purge something....DS starts playing with it again!

I 'think' the Leap frog table is on it's way out. The rest DS still plays with quite a bit.

I should have asked for a bigger house for Christmas...

  • We are def getting rid of the 'crawl' toys.  I'm planning to have a yard sale in the spring to get rid of the baby baby stuff.

  • We're not getting rid of anything since we're currently TTC #2.  But I am going to buy a LARGE rubbermaid tote and fill it with all the little baby toys.  Anything he hasn't played with in a few months I'll put in there.  I might even have him help me decide which to put up.

I wish I could get rid of stuff, because it's taking over my basement... but it will get used again in July!

  • I got rid of all newborn toys (things that hang from carseats, teethers, rattles, etc), their walking push toy since they don't need it to help walk anymore, an annoying loud farm toy that just makes noises when you push buttons, and really just anything that they don't play with anymore.  They never had a music table so no worries about that taking up space, and they still play with their ball popper all the time so that will stay for a while.
  • I attempted to purge last night.  I mainly just ended up moving stuff from the living room into DD's room or into the spare bedrom - which will become baby#2's room as soon as we get furniture.  For now it's still storage - mostly full of toys.  Ha.

I was going to move the Leapfrog table, but DD does still play with it randomly.  The sit n spin got taken away for now.  I'll bring it back out when DD is a little older.  The ball-popper got moved to her room so hopefully we are less likely to lose all the damn balls.  Same for all of her wooden/chunky puzzles and wooden stacking sets and shape shorting sets.
  • Agreed. We're going to toss the infant stuff. Probably a few of the (way too many) stuffed animals.  Other things are getting organized into drawers or bins or whatever. Some stuff got moved into their rooms (YAY!)

I would keep all of the open-ended things like blocks, stacking cups, shape sorters (DS1 still enjoys these at 26m) for a while longer.  I'd love to get rid of some of the larger things and the biggest noisemakers, but MIL will notice.

We do have an inflatable "punching bag" lion that they never play with and takes up space.  Ditto for the baby floor gym things.

I wish I knew a PG person to give them to.
