Can you get deals on shows in Vegas?

DH and I were thinking about going to Vegas with some of our Christmas money from our parents. I have always wanted to see one of the cirque du soleil shows.

Has anyone been or know which one to go to?

  • If it's your first time seeing Cirque, see 'O'.  You get better tickets if you know a local who can buy them for you or if you buy them last-minute and they have good seats that never sold or got returned.

  • Do you know a Vegas resident?  They get tickets for 50% off.  We are going to Vegas 01/27-01/31 and my sister's SIL (who is going with us) knows someone who lives in Vegas and she just got us Cirque tickets for Mystere.

The only other way I know of getting them discounted (actually free) is to do one of the timeshare tours.  It's about 90 minutes and they give you free tickets.  You just have to tell them what show you want and they'll give them to you but you do have to go through the tour.  We stayed at Excalibur last time we were there and they were at every turn asking if you wanted the tour so I'm guessing it's probably the same at other resorts.  If not, and you are interested, just go to Excalibur!  ;)

  • Actually, avoid Excalibur.  It's the yuckiest, dingiest of all the hotels on the strip.  Ewwww.
  • LOL -- it is rather, um, dingy.  And it costs $27/night (you get what you pay for)!  And they will comp a night or two for playing at their tables for more than an hour (approx).  We stayed there for a week for $125.  That's ridiculous!

They do have a gorgeous pool though!  :)

  • We got great seats to a show (can't remember which one) for about $40 bucks.  We were in NY NY and someone came up to us about signing up to go look at new condos they were building for a time share.  We decided what the hell and went for it.  It took about 3 hours.  We went to the new condos, took a tour and ate wonderful food and had free drinks.  And then, when they tried to get us to buy a time share, we said no thanks, we only came to get seats to a show.  They said ok.  We got back on the van and went back to the hotel.  I would totally do it again.

  • try groupon
  • There's a day of ticket booth in the Fashion Show Mall that sells tickets for shows that night.  Sort of like TKTS in NYC.  That's going to be your best deal.

We just saw Mystere and it was awesome!  Oh- and MH's work paid for us to stay at the Paris and while it was ok, I thought it was a bit dated and smelled very much like smoke.  I'd stay somewhere else.
