Ok Roomba owners, come in, please

So, I had dh return the tv and get me the Roomba.  I was so excited, even though I know it gets mixed reviews.

We tried it out last night and it worked on about 1/4 of our living room before having to recharge.  Ok, I get that the battery is new and needs to build up its life.

We try it again this morning.  It cleans the same area it just cleaned the day before and needed recharging again after about 1/4 of the area.  Never got to any other part of the living room.  Plus it keeps telling me that the sensor needs cleaning and to "bump the bumper" (just did it now again).

So, we're tempted to take it back.  I'm disappointed since my friends seem to love it so much.  What are we doing wrong?  Why won't it get past the same area by the dock?

  • Hmmmm, we never had that problem.  Have you tried calling their customer service line?

  • I don't have a Roomba, but I am all about taking stuff back that doesn't seem to be working properly, letting the store know it's defective, and trying again with a new one.  If the same thing happens again, then I call CS.  Or at least that's how I would handle your situation.

This is probably a "duh" question - but did you charge the battery enough before using it the first time?

I followed the directions and charged it until the light was green.  It lasted about 20 minutes each time I've used it.

  • Yeah, then I would return it and try a new one.  I've watched my aunt and uncle's Roomba go non-stop around their entire living space (kitchen, dining, living room, hallway) for about an hour once.
  • I don't have a Roomba... I have a Scooba... I wanted it so bad!  A good 70% of my house is tile... I thought the Scooba was going to be a life saver... the darn thing has never worked right... I've called CS they were no help.. it's in my rummage sale box now.. the store wouldn't take it back after it was used.... linens and things ... and now they are out of bussiness!

I say take the thing back! As much as doing the floors sucks... so does  throwing money away!
