A little background. I didn't have periods for 2 years prior to conceiving DD. I was on BCP and while I was on or went off of them I didn't have AF. Here I am now once again with no AF and I'm not pregnant. I was on the mini pill after I had DD because I was BF, then regular BCP after I weaned. I hven't had a period in over 7 months and have been off the pill for 5. My doctor put me on Provera to help jump start my periods and DH and I want to start TTC again. I obviously was still cycling when I didn't have my periods before but it now worries me. I gues for some reason I thought having DD would get my period back. Anyway, I'm confused about whether when I start bleeding if it's just a side effect of the pills and then wait for a period after that or if regardless of when I start bleeding is it my period? BTW...they ran all the lab work to check my hormone levels, thyroid, etc and all were good. They keep telling me that it is just normal for my body but I'm still unsure.

Re: Anyone ever take Provera?
If you aren't having periods you aren't ovulating (so you aren't "cycling"). Sounds like DD was conceived on a fluke and if you hadn't been pregnant you would have had a period. Never having a period is not normal and I'd want some answers. Have you seen an RE? Have you been tested for PCOS?
Provera will bring on a period, but it just makes your body think you've ovulated (so it's kind of like a fake period). The hope is that once you have a period, your body will figure it out and the next cycle you would ovulate (not sure whether that answers the question)

My experience with Provera was something like this: very irregular periods for 3-4 years, on BC the entire time, off BC in May 2008 (got off to see if my body could regulate itself - it didn't and I was still not having periods), started Provera September 2008 (began charting my temps to help me understand my cycles better), took last dose of Provera December 12th, 2008, ran labs to see if it had helped me start ovulating on December 16th, test results came back two days later, was told I was NOT ovulating at all, December 31st - BFP, DD born healthy September 2009.
Doctors can be wrong a lot of the time. I hope that the Provera helps you in the ways that you want it to.
I can't remember everything they tested for (it's been a few years now), but probably prolactin, insulin/glucose tolerance, testosterone. You'd also want an u/s to see if you have the typical polycystic ovaries. There are other causes of anovulation, but PCOS is a very common one. Timing is also very important for these tests, so even if you've had FSH and LH drawn, if it wasn't done in the right part of your cycle the results are invalid.
