Laproscopic surgery for ovarian cyst?

Anyone have experience with laproscopic surgery for an ovarian cyst or tumor?  I have either a cyst or a tumor right now on my left ovary.  My doctor gave me a stronger birth control pill to use for the next 2 months and I have a follow up appt in 6 wks.  If the cyst/tumor has not resolved on its own, I'll need laproscopic surgery.  Looking for experiences and in particular, recovery times.  Also, we are considering TTC very soon and curious if the surgery would mean I would need to wait several months after to TTC??

Re: Laproscopic surgery for ovarian cyst?

  • I had laproscopic surgery for a cyst when I was in college.  It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  The recovery was fairly simple.  I didn't miss much school, and it wasn't too painful.  I wore loose clothes that didn't rub against the incision spots, and was fine.  I have two tiny scars that you would never even notice unless you were looking.  From what I have been told, most cysts resolve themselves.  I did have to be on birth control pills after the surgery, but have never had a problem since.

As for TTC, I don't know anything about the time frame.  It was quite a few years down the road that I TTC for the first time.  I do know that it didn't effect anything long term...it took two months of trying to get pregnant with DS and one month of trying to get pregnant with this baby.  Good luck with everything!

  • I had a 7cm cyst removed with laproscopic surgery a few years ago.  My SIL came to help me for about 2 days - my DD was a toddler and DH had to work.  After that I was pretty much back to normal, just a little sore.  I also got pregnant with DS about 3 months later, and I don't remember the doctor saying anything about waiting to TTC.
